A Few Things to Keep in Mind for Boxing Items
Storing your belongings in boxes is one of the best methods for keeping your property organized, safe and clean in a storage unit. Boxes can protect your belongings from humidity, vermin, dust and physical damage. They also allow you to maximize the space in your unit by stacking items floor to ceiling. We strongly recommend you utilize boxes for your storage unit. If you do so, here are a few important strategies to keep in mind.
When packing your boxes, take care to distribute weight carefully to ensure to box is easy to carry, lift and balance on top of other boxes. Place heavier items like books or appliances at the bottom of the box and arrange them so that no side is substantially heavier than the others. You’ll also want to place the heaviest boxes at the bottom of a stack. This will decrease the risk of stacked boxes falling over, potentially damaging the items inside.
When sealing your boxes, it can really pay off to use a proper type of tape. We recommend using shipping tape, filament tape or duct tape, for heavy boxes, to keep your items secure when lifting and carrying the box. Avoid using electrical tape, scotch tape or masking tape.
We do recommend using masking tape for labelling your boxes. It’s a great idea to clearly label all boxes with their contents to make them easy to find when unpacking. For added convenience, label all your boxes on the same side so that all labels are clearly visible from the entrance to the unit.
